Rivers State Government has disclosed that it is going to spend the sum of N9 billion on rural electrification project in all communities across the state as soon as the issue of unsteady power supply is solved.

The Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said this while addressing a Town Hall Meeting with the people of Ahoada West Local Government area of the State recently.

“Government will commence the rural electrification project in all communities across the state, but what we are doing now is to ensure we provide steady power supply in Port Harcourt first, so we urge you to be patient with us, we have you in our mind, and we are ready to serve you better,” he said.
The governor also said at the meeting that as soon as the survey plan covering 21 hectares of land is provided, that contractors would be mobilised to commence the building of the Local government Model secondary school in the area.

He mentioned that the project would not only involve erecting a building, but would also include the installation of ICT facilities, furnishing of the building, equipping, fencing of the premises and landscaping.

“The people whom we awarded these contracts to are from Ahoada-West Local Government Area. They are your brothers. Please, help government to police this people so they can complete the projects on time, so we can deliver them to you. I can assure you that at least 70 per cent of the contractors are from Ahoada-West, so if the work is slow, your sons are responsible,” Amaechi said.

The Governor Amaechi at the meeting ordered the state Ministry of Health to sack the medical doctor attached to the Ikodi-Engene Primary Health Centre at the LGA for absenteeism and abandonment of duty.
He promised to build a Primary Health Centre and a Model Primary School for Mbiama Community to tackle the health and educational challenges in the area.

He also added that his administration had tacked the issues of crime and restiveness in the state since he stepped into office.
He added that over five road projects have been completed in the community.
On the issue of flood, the governor said that his administration have spent over N700 million to provide relief materials and assistance to those affected by the flood of last year.

He also disclosed that his administration has equally paid for Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination for all students in public schools across the state.

The Executive Chairman of Ahoada-West Local Government Council, Barrister Awori Miller, had earlier in his address, commended Governor Amaechi for initiating Town Hall meetings at the Local Government levels, saying that those entrusted with the management of the people’s welfare would give account of their stewardship, while the governed are given unfettered opportunity to constructively share their views.
