Baker Kills Naming Ceremony Guest with Poisoned La Casera Soft Drink

According to Tribune newspaper, authorities of the Osun State Police Command have apprehended a bakery worker for allegedly killing a guest of his boss with herbicide during a naming ceremony in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Parading the 27-year-old suspect, identified as Taofeek Adeyemo before newsmen over the weekend, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Abubakar Marafa, said he would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigation into the dastardly act.

Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that Taofeek, who was in charge of food and drinks during the social function, had allegedly poured the poisonous herbicide inside a plastic bottle of Lacasera, with a view to give it to a colleague he had planned to harm out of jealousy.
However, a guest, who was apparently under the influence of alcohol innocently took the drink and drank it, mistaking it for a bottle of Lacasera. He was said to have died shortly after he was rushed to hospital for medical help.

The death of the guest was said to have raised suspicion, a development which culminated in the arrest of Taofeek, who later confessed to the crime.
Speaking to journalists through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Folasade Odoro, the commissioner of police hinted that the suspect had confessed to the crime, assuring that he would soon be dragged to court for prosecution.

Speaking with newsmen, Taofeek argued that he did not intend to kill the deceased, explaining that he actually poisoned the drink of a co-worker but unfortunately, the deceased took the drink.
“I didn’t intend killing him. There was no fight between us. He was just unfortunate to have taken that drink. I put the poison in the drink of a friend and co-worker who had always threatened to kill me. I wanted to use the opportunity of that outing to kill him before he would carry out his threat against me.”
